IF Colloquium No.14 – Noether’s two theorems for differential-difference equations

📣 IF invites you to the No.14 IF Colloquium (Online Seminar Series)

📌 Title : ” Noether’s two theorems for differential-difference equations ”

📌 Speaker : Asst. Prof. Linyu Peng, Ph.D. in Mathematics at University of Surrey, UK, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Keio University, Japan

📌 Abstract : Noether’s (first) theorem establishes a one-to-one correspondence between symmetries and conservation laws, which are both of fundamental importance in the study of mechanical and physical systems. In this talk, we will show the extension of Noether’s two theorems to differential- difference equations (DDEs). This is made possible by proving the general symmetry prolongation formula for DDEs, that is equivalent to an evolutionary representative. Illustrative examples will be studied. Part of the talk is based on joint work with Peter Hydon (Kent)

📌 Keywords : DDEs, Noether’s two theorems, Symmetries, Conservation Laws
