IF Colloquium No.12 – Imprint of GW in atomic spectra

📣 IF invites you to the No.12 IF Colloquium (Online Seminar Series)

📌 Title: ” Imprint of GW in atomic spectra ”

📌Speaker : Apimook Watcharangkool, Ph.D. in Physics, King’s College London, University of London(UK). A researcher from the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) (Public Organization), Chiangmai, Thailand

📌 Abstract : We explore the effects of gravitational waves on energy levels of hydrogen atoms by considering the non-relativistic limit of the Dirac equation coupling with a gravitational wave background. The low energy limit of this equation yields corrections to the usual Schr\”{o}dinger equation. using the standard first-order perturbation theory, we found that the perturbed hydrogen spectra carry the imprint of gravitational waves. Moreover, electron excitation in the perturbed hydrogen follows a selection rule, which provides an evidence of graviton’s spin.
