IF Colloquium No.19 – Extreme-Value Statistics in Cosmology

📣 IF invites you to the No.19 IF Colloquium (Online Seminar Series)
—————————————————————————–

📌 Title : ” Extreme-Value Statistics in Cosmology ”

📌 Speaker : Siri Chongchitnan, Ph.D., Ph.D. in Theoretical Astrophysics at Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge, UK, Reader in mathematics, Director of Student Experience at Mathematics Institute, University of Warwick, UK

📌 Abstract :
I will give an introduction to extreme-value statistics (EVS) and discuss its applications to cosmology. I will show how, given an observational volume, EVS can be used to predict: a) the mass of the most massive galaxy clusters, b) the size of the largest cosmic voids, c) the maximum mass and spin of primordial black holes, and d) the mass of the most massive Population III stars.

📌 Keywords : Extreme-Value Statistics (EVS) , Cosmology
