📌 Title: ” Duality : how the (AdS) universe is a hologram “
📌 Speaker : Napat Poovuttikul, Ph.D. , Department of Mathematical Sciences, Durham University, UK
📌 Abstract : It is not possible to explain why two magnets repel/attract one another beyond “there is an electromagnetic force attracting/repelling things”. That is, unless we introduce a necessary framework – a concept of fields. Then, there is a popular claim that “gravity” is sort of a holographic image of some lower dimensional theory. Again, there is a necessary framework to make sense of this statement. It is called duality – a modern concept which defies the way we understood reality. In this colloquium, I will discuss various examples of dualities and what does it mean when we say that two systems are dual to one another. Hopefully, by the end of it, we have a better grasp on why the “universe” is a hologram!
