📌 Title: ” Faraday’s Lines of Force as Strings: An Alternative Description of Maxwell Theory ”
📌 Abstract: Faraday originated an idea of lines of force as a basic dynamical description of electromagnetism. However, this point of view was quickly replaced by Maxwell’s concept of fields, thus considered outdated. In this talk, I will demonstrate how string theory can be applied to revive this old-fashioned concept in the sense that the classical electromagnetism is viewed as the statistical mechanics of lines of electric flux whose dynamics described by the string action. This talk is based on the published paper arXiv:1108.5094.
